Brian and Kailyn – engaged!

We began the session at the home that Brian and Kailyn recently purchased. It’s such a beautiful old home with wonderful character.

While we were inside we took a few with Riley, their not so small puppy!

After a few at their home, we went to Rice Park in St. Paul.

We decided we needed a few pictures with Riley being Riley! At the end of the session, back at their home, we took Riley out for some play time! He was so excited to be out and running!

Thanks Brian and Kailyn! We look forward to your wedding in June!

Seth and Laura – engaged!

Saturday afternoon we met up with Seth and Laura down by the stone arch bridge for their engagement session. I love to see couples who are in love and love to have fun and laugh together! Laura and Seth were a delight to photograph! We were very lucky to have temps in the 20s and almost no wind…it made being outside so much easier! Here’s the lovely couple!

Laura’s jacket is oh so wonderful – I wish I had one like it, but I think I have enough coats as it is!

It was even warm enough to find a few puddles of liquid water (as opposed to the frozen water that is quite ubiquitous these days). I love reflections!

We went inside at the end of the session to do a few without coats. Inside we found this fabulous old elevator!

Thank you Laura and Seth, we look forward to your wedding day!

John and Kira

Kira and John live in California and are getting married here in St. Paul next May. They found us online and after exchanging a few emails decided to book with us with us for their wedding. We discussed options for doing their engagement session and decided to try to fit it in over the holidays while they were in town visiting John’s family. December 28th we finally got to meet Kira and John in person for the first time…what a treat! They were a delightful couple to photograph, talk with and just be with! We started the session at a sledding hill at Como Park…

We finished our session at a coffee shop with some nice, warm coffee!

Kira and John, it was wonderful to finally meet you in person and photograph your engagement session and just sit and chat! We can’t wait until May!

Erica and Jerry – Engagement

Sunday was supposed to be about 31 degrees and sunny. At least that’s what the 10day forecast said when we re-scheduled an engagement shoot with Erica and Jerry. I think we only made it up to 17 degrees, but at least there was no wind. We met Erica and Jerry downtown in the St. Anthony Main area, did some pictures outside, then found a few awesome nooks and crannies inside so we could thaw out before heading outside again to finish up our shoot.  They are such a beautiful couple and I am so excited to photograph their wedding in May!

Kyle and Amie – Engagement

Thursday we got to ring in the new year with an awesome engagement shoot! We are always up for an adventure and Kyle and Amie were ready for one too. It was about 18F with a little wind, but not too bad. We went out to the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park for the session. It is an area that they frequented through their time of dating and also was the area where Kyle proposed. We started off with a little hike to the spot where Kyle dropped to his knee to ask for Amie’s hand in marriage. . .

The tree (the one fallen over) in the right hand image was a place they would come to sit and talk. . . that was before it fell in the mighty Mississippi. Kyle was a bit devastated when he discovered that their tree now lay in the river, the tree he planned to propose by. Now that it’s January, and the river is frozen over, Alan hopped out on the river to catch the shot of them with their tree. I don’t really trust rivers when they appear to be frozen so I was definitely on the nervous side as I watched my husband creep farther and father out. Kyle, the former boy scout, also had an eye on Alan just to make sure all was okay.

Check out that sky! Now I admit, normally I like to give a blue sky a little extra umph for good measure, but I didn’t even touch this one. This is the all natural winter sky we were shooting with on Thursday. Kyle and Amie, you two really know how to pick a day for photos!

Yes, that vast white expanse behind Kyle and Amie is the Mississippi River

It is always a little tricky to figure out how to pose a couple when there is snow all around and you want to do something more than have them stand. After a while, Alan got tired of the standing poses, took off his jacket, put it in the snow and told Kyle and Amie to sit down. And then promptly sat himself in the snow to take the pictures. I am pretty sure my response was an eye-role, until a few min later when I found myself laying down in the snow to get the shot I was after.

While we where at the playground part of the park the wind began to pick up and we could tell that the temperature was starting to drop. There were a couple more ideas we wanted to flesh out so we hopped back in the car to warm up and head out to another area of the park.

I thought show angels would be a fun. We sat in the car to make plans for where we were going to take the pictures so we could all run out, quickly get the pictures and then get back in the warm car.

The pictures from above don’t really do the setting justice. By this time we had winds upwards of 25-30mph and the snow that wasn’t packed down was blowing. From my angle, I thought we might loose Kyle and Amie while they were making snow angels.

We had one more set of pictures to get with the fun pair of double mittens. . .

and this is, “okay, it’s been fun, but seriously, it’s cold, let’s go back to the car.”

Thanks Kyle and Amie, we really enjoyed the shoot. We are already looking forward to your wedding day!
